Users and customers will have questions that they frequently ask about what you sell or your services. Today’s blog looks at the importance of FAQ pages and how useful they are to SEO.

If you hadn’t guessed, “FAQs” is the acronym for Frequently Asked Questions. They are an essential section on any business or online store website as they are simply a list of common questions people ask about a specific product or service.

Without an FAQ on your website, you lose out on the many benefits. Webpages with questions (and answers) can save time on customer service calls, emails or chats on your website. All in all, they help potential clients decide for themselves.

Every website needs to have a series of pages, regardless of the business or type of store. About us, Contact, and Privacy policy must be on that list. Companies that offer different products or services may have more than one page of FAQs to differentiate between them. It is a way of giving customer service without having a person do it directly; plus, it is a place to put all the information your users might need to buy your products or take some action on your website.

Apart from knowing the FAQ pages, you must understand why your website should have one. Did you know that Voice search is becoming more and more popular as smartphones evolve? Google has indicated that more than 20% of searches are voice searches. Nowadays, people want fast and straightforward answers, plus, having content in FAQs can bring good traffic of people who will be genuinely interested in what you have to offer? So include an FAQ page and optimise it as you would any other page in your content strategy.

Reasons for having Q&A pages include:

  • Do they help give answers to any doubts your clients may have?
  • Build trust in your business and attract potential customers.
  • Google appreciates websites that focus on helping people, which will help your search ranking.

To create a page of frequently asked questions, you need to:

Collect Relevant Questions

Do your research; what questions do your sales, support or technical teams receive most often? Make a list of these and provide the answer. You could also do surveys or keyword research on Google to see what questions or phrases are mainly used to find you. Even Quora or Reddit can help discover trending topic questions or see what your competitors have on their FAQs and adapt them.

Decide on the Organisation and Design of the Page

Not all FAQ pages will be the same structure as other websites. Some pages may be single pages, others multiple pages. If FAQs stretch over multiple pages, make sure some navigation is in place.

Creating the content would help if you had clear and concise answers, short and to the point. Too much text can be confusing. Categories or headings can organise questions to give a specific order and make things easier for users to find.

SEO Importance of the FAQ Page

An FAQ page is significant for several reasons for your website. They are like any other content page on your website, so when optimised correctly, they help with web positioning and must be created with the user in mind.

This page can also act as the source for new content on your blog or social media because you can go deeper into answers and expand on them to build out content.

Perhaps, one of the most significant benefits is creating brand awareness and promoting products. FAQs help increase visibility and improve authority too.

Use Structured Data for the FAQs Page

Adding structured data to your FAQ page will gain more visibility in search engines, receive a higher click-through rate and help you stand out from the competition because you can appear in the search results and as responses from Google Assistant.
